The tragic death of Sarah Burke (September 3, 1982 – January 19, 2012) seemed destined to cast a dark shadow over 2012 as the skiing community lost a beloved friend and community roll model. But the resiliency and determination shared by all athletes can often times help us shed light on a shadow with inspiring actions that lift even the heaviest spirits.
-Josh Dueck met tragedy first hand while skiing in 2004, when, as Mike Douglas puts it: “a flip on skis went tragically wrong.” Though Paralyzed from mid torso-down, Josh Dueck wasn’t about to give up, instead he did what all truly dedicated athletes would do, he kept skiing. Fitted with a Sit Ski, Josh Dueck took to the snow with conviction. Now, I’m not going to ruin the video for you, but chills ran down my spine when I watched it.
