One of Portland’s greatest attributes is the diverse culture when it comes to fashion. Truth be told, this may be one of the only cities that lacks clubs with dress codes, or clubs in general (we call those bars around these parts). Despite our seemingly lack of posh, PDX natives and transplants still find a way to keep their attire polished yet casual. Inspired by urban meets functional street wear, we’ve created two looks fit for any city dweller. Even though we are chomping at the bit to get up on the slopes, you can’t help but enjoy a dry stretch during a Pacific Northwest winter. For our urban lady we’ve retired the GORE-TEX for a few days, creating a layered look we are swooning over. The RVCA First Snow Jacket is a shop favorite for ladies this season, it’s so good it’s hard to know where to start with this gem. Let’s begin with the ideal mix of black and blue denim perfectly color-blocked, and paired with a cozy sherpa fleece collar. Wear it closed for a sleek, business savvy silhouette or open for a flash of flannel. And yes, popping your collar is an option…probably a great one with that overstated collar. We’ve broken up the subtle graphics on the Volcom Stoned Rad T-Shirt from the flannel lining by adding a sliver of distressed denim with the Rolling High Shirt by Volcom. For the bottom half, we’ve created an icon by pairing black high-waisted skinnies with the ever classic high-top Vans. Just in case the clouds roll in, the jacket is coated for that (fingers crossed) first snow and the Vans Sk8-Hi MTE Shoes feature waterproofing by ScotchgardTM. Stay tuned to check out the dream boyfriend we’ve created for this look; a form meets function profile: Pacific NorthFresh edition.
Time flies when you’re having fun, so why slow down? Catch the tasty waves and a cool buzz because the summer has just begun. It is time to celebrate for no other reason than to be in the sun with friends, drinking beer and playing games as surf videos and surf music fill the air with good vibrations.
On July, 23rd, The U.S. Outdoor Summer Surf Party will wash ashore on the beaches of the White Owl Social Club. Your favorite brands such as: Vans, Volcom, RVCA, Brixton, Lib Tech, Billabong, Xcel, VONZIPPER and more will be in attendance. Prizes will be awarded, like a custom Murdey Surfboard and a whole lot more. Sound waves will be provided by the returning Don & The Quixotes and DJ Danny Corn, so don’t miss out. This is sure to be a good time.
The Rep Day Sale is upon us! October 19th and 20th to be exact…
The reps have come out of hibernation and are hitting the road, giving us the ins and outs of their products so that we can get you into the gear that is best suited for you, literally and figuratively. But why not experience their knowledge, first hand? Not to take anything away from our shop guys- What I am saying is that there aren’t many opportunities throughout the year where you have the reps from all your favorite brands posted up in the same place at the same time and filling you in on all the juicy details. Not that they are gossip girls or anything like that. This isn’t Comic Con. Although there are a few of the reps (who will be in attendance) that like to nerd out on Comic Con. Again, that isn’t a bad thing. Some reps like comics and super heroes and some like football… but we all love skiing and snowboarding. Game. Set. Match.
The time to party is upon us! Time to party as hard as we can before the long summer days fade to long dark nights. Before the heat turns to hundreds of millions of drops of rain mixed with a thick grey fog. Before we switch from tank tops to down jackets and so on and so forth.
… But seriously, it is time for you to hang out with us at Rontoms Bar (600 East Burnside Portland, OR 97214), Wednesday, August 7th. We will be setting up shop and hosting our annual US Outdoor Beach Party that is FREE to attend. Yes, free! There will be games, prizes and drink specials to set the mood along with surf videos and live music performed by The Lonesome Billies and Don & The Quixotes! Whiskey drinkin’ saddle tunes mixed with twangy surf rock? Yes please. Some of our favorite brands will be hanging out too! Vans, RVCA, Xcel, Electric, Murdey Surfboards, Lib Tech, Poler, Volcom and more! IT’S A PARTY, PEOPLE! 8pm, be there.
In case you are wondering, yes, that is Steve Van Doren, known to some as the “Willy Wonka” of Vans and son of Vans founder Paul Van Doren, being branded by none other than US Outdoor’s very own George Bean, Head Snowboard Buyer at US Outdoor. You see, sometimes… things happen, Off The Wall things, and when they do it is next to impossible to escape the iPaparazzi. With grace and integrity, Luke Yates, Vans Northwest Sales Rep and iPhone extraordinaire, captured this golden moment while on Vans sponsored sabbatical in Silverton, Colorado just before the snowsports industry congregated in Denver for the annual SIA Trade Show.
Witnesses present: Pat Moore (back left) and Mark Landvik (right)
Perpetrator: George Bean (typical)
Victim: Steve Van Doren
Lets break this picture down for a second, shall we? Lets. They sure are having a good time, aren’t they? Each face tells a story; from unparalleled joy, utter disbelief, maniacal laughter and shame, this all-star cast is sharing in a “moment” that they will never forget. It isn’t every day that you get to brand a prominent figure of one of the most iconic brands in surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding. George Bean knows this as his expression speaks for itself. What is easy to overlook is the substance dripping from George’s left hand as he applies the antique brand to Steve Van Doren’s backside. Is it milk, beer? Judging from George’s face, he doesn’t know either. There are no bottles present nor is there a cup to necessitate any liquid. But I guess it pales in comparison. Feel free to explore this photo further to discover any other hidden gems I might have missed.
Fortunately, nobody was hurt in the moments leading up to or preceding this event. It was all in good fun and Van Doren walked away without a scratch.
